Women Have More Complications Following a Heart Attack than Men
Some findings that were presented at the American Heart Association’s Quality of Care and Outcomes Research Scientific Sessions, 2014 are receiving a lot of attention in the news lately. Many were surprised to learn that women who suffer heart attacks appear to suffer from more complications after one year than men do.
A study that followed more than 3,500 patients in the U.S. and Spain from 2008 to 2012 showed that one year after the cardiac event, women were more likely to suffer from:
- Reduced physical functioning and more physical limitation
- Reduced mental functioning
- Lower quality of life
- Increased episodes of angina
